How it Started
- Dirty News began as a concept in December 2024 after browsing through news channels and watching the reporting change before my eyes.
- Around this time Namecheap was doing a .news TLD giveaway, and thus Dirty News was born.
- After publishing a few articles in early 2025, Dirty News went offline due to lack of funding and technical resources to maintain the monitoring system and scraping archive.
- In September 2025 resources were acquired and Dirty News was brought back online.
- In October 2025 Dirty News migrated to whylib.com, a free hosting service. The dirty.news domain will be retired in December. This substantial reduction in overhead should allow the mission to continue into 2026 and without any major breakdowns.
The Mission
To hold the media accountable for their lies, coverups, and biased reporting, and make sure that Big Brother can’t permanently erase the truth.
How it Works
Dirty News utilizes open source tools to monitor news networks online publications.
- A changedetection.io self hosted instance scrapes breaking news reports
- After a time reports are re-scraped and compared with previous versions for changes
- Reports are examined by a human operator for questionable events
- Events logged as questionable are archived and reported to the public on Dirty News
Limitations
- Some news networks block web scrapers and so it’s difficult to make automated comparisons
- News reporting varies by locale, and I can only record from the locale I’m searching from
- Dirty News is operated by a single human being with 1 set of hands
